JOB ANNOUNCEMENT POSTING

PROGRAM ASSOCIATE, MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

The Minnesota Historical Society's Historic Sites Department seeks a
Program Associate, Marketing and Communications, to coordinate the
marketing of historic sites, manage many of the communications from the
central office, and coordinate or facilitate other departmental programs
or initiatives such as special events and accessibility. This is a
full-time, regular position located at the Minnesota History Center in
St. Paul, MN.

SUMMARY OF WORK:   Major responsibilities include: 1) coordinate
marketing and promotion efforts for the network of historic sites with
historic sites and public relations and marketing staff; 2) coordinate
departmental marketing efforts with a variety of program initiatives to
ensure that the department's goals and objectives are compatible and
coherent, and monitor the success of these efforts;  3) ensure that
departmental programs are accessible to the widest possible audience; 4)
create professional and timely communications tools to disseminate
information from and within the historic sites department so that staff
and non-staff are well-informed about the department's and Society's
programs;  5) perform duties of the department's computer coordinator
through liaison work with other MHS departments and departmental staff;
and 6) perform related work as apparent or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
*       BA or equivalent in history, education, history museum studies, or
related field with commensurate knowledge and understanding of United
States history and culture, plus 3-4 years experience working in public
history, with a general knowledge of general museum and historic site
management issues and professional standards.
*       Knowledge of effective marketing and public relations techniques for
history programs.
*       Experience promoting public programs.
*       Excellent written and oral communication skills.
*       Ability to edit text for clarity and accuracy.
*       Conceptual, planning, and organizational ability.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
*       MA or equivalent in history, education, history museum studies, or
related field with commensurate knowledge and understanding of United
States history and culture plus 1-2 years experience working in public
history, with knowledge of with a knowledge of general museum and
historic site management issues and professional standards.
*       Extensive knowledge and experience with programs at historic sites,
especially special events planning and execution.
*       Experience working with accessibility issues, and knowledge of current
standards in the field.
*       Knowledge of information technology issues and how they can be applied
to the work of the Society, including knowledge of the world wide web
and excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft
Publisher software applications.
*       Highly developed administrative skills, and experience in project
management.

SALARY:  $  2,391 monthly minimum
