Ok, here's something most people miss when looking at
US salaries, especially when they fall on the low-end
of the spectrum.

There is no one, universal range for the United
States.  It's economies are diverse and generally can
be reflected in its cost of housing.  If, for example,
you pay $1,200 for a two-bedroom apartment in San
Jose, California (if you can find one), then you need
a salary that is commensurate.

If you pay $400 for an equivalent apartment in El
Paso, TX, it is only fair the salaries be
commensurate.

One cannot judge salaries on the basis of what an LA
or NYC salary would be.  They need to be more
accurately reflected.

It's a tool to use if you're contemplating a move, but
it will help you to better judge reality than from
your own backyard.
