Summer Internships in Museum Studies

Strawbery Banke Museum, Portsmouth, NH, invites applications for several 2009 summer internships in Archaeology, Collections, Historic Landscapes, Marketing, Development, Preservation, and Education.

About Strawbery Banke

Strawbery Banke is an outdoor history museum located in the heart of Portsmouth, NH, a vibrant coastal city. Our 10-acre site showcases 350 years of change in a New England waterfront neighborhood. Fully furnished restored houses and interiors depict change over time from 1695-1955. Each year, Strawbery Banke welcomes more than 50,000 visitors; delivers learning experiences to more than 12,000 school-age students; conducts original archaeological and collections research; and offers a wide-ranging array of public programs.

About the Internship Program

Description

The Summer Internship in Museum Studies is an eight- to ten-week summer internship. Placements begin in June and end in mid-August. Interns work closely with museum staff on hands-on, meaningful projects and gain experience in the operation of a midsize museum. Work weeks are typically 37.5 hours, with some additional time for field trips, events, and meetings. Some weekend work is normally expected. Internship placements are tailored to the skills and interests of individual applicants.

Eligibility

Internships are available to both graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in United States colleges or universities. Undergraduate applicants must have completed at least two years of college coursework and be enrolled in a program related to the museum's mission and topic areas.
