Position Description:
The Online Catalog Manager is responsible for managing the core research
database and ancillary functional modules of the integrated archives,
library, and museum information system of the Ohio Historical Society.

Responsibilities:
Serve as administrator of the epixtech Horizon system as customized for the
Ohio Historical Society, the chief responsibilities of which include
ensuring system security and functionality, devising and generating periodic
and special reports, installing applicable system upgrades as such are
released, and updating existing codes, tables, menus, and views as these
enhancements are deemed necessary to strengthen the utility of the system
and to facilitate wider public access to the State Archives of Ohio and the
library and museum collections of the Ohio Historical Society

Serve as primary technical liaison with epixtech, Ohio Public Library
Information Network (OPLIN), OhioLINK and OCLC.

Ensure that all system backup procedures are followed and that the Horizon
database is backed up at regular intervals

Document all system upgrades and modifications

Maintain an inventory of all PCs on which Horizon is installed

Assist as the need may arise with digital and automation initiatives of the
Archives/Library Division and the Collections/Curatorial Group of the Ohio
Historical Society

Evaluate, and make recommendations with respect to, staff training needs

Evaluate, and make recommendations with respect to, hardware, software, and
Horizon-associated web-site needs

Qualifications:

Education - Graduate degree in library or information science

Experience - Five or more years' professional-level information systems
experience in an archives, library, or museum

Essential Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

*       Thorough knowledge of  the principles governing integrated library
and collections information systems

*       Thorough knowledge of Horizon or a closely related system

*       Thorough knowledge of  SQL and Sybase

*       Thorough knowledge of MARC formats and library cataloging rules

*       Knowledge of archival and museum collection management principles
and of cataloging and processing formats.

*       Familiarity with procedures and applications regulating the
digitization and mounting of documents on the World Wide Web

*       Familiarity with web-site design and management

*       Superior interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills


Salary:
Commensurate with experience.
