We haven't been dealing so much with the scale, but we are required *by law* to
include the
registration number of the object in the photograph used for collections managem
ent.  In my
experience, there is no one photograph of an object which can answer all purpose
s. A simple
solution for you might be to simply make 2 exposures while you're at it: one wit
h the scale
and object no., and immediately after, one with them removed.
