I have been building and designing exhibits for three years now. I work for
a museum complex, natural history, history and children's museums. We
design exhibits by many criteria and many times our personal preference is
never taken into consideration. The three major factors in exhibit design
here is what the educators experience on the floor (what the public asks
about, what teaches well), what meets our mission as a museum, and most
importantly FUNDING. I could have the best idea in the world for an exhibit
and it usually ends up a mere shadow of it's self by the time we go through
the requirements and prototyping. I found this is true of exhibit
departments in museums around the country because I do traveling exhibits
too. However, I don't have experience with Art museums.
It's a great and challenging job, good luck!

Subject: exhibit design?

I am thinking about going into museum exhibit dsign, I just want to know
more
about it. As far as I can tell so far, it just seems like you decide what
arrangements the paintings are going to be hung in. Can you tell me more
please?

I worked for a scenic shop called "Museum Services" who built incredible
scenery for several museums while I was there. I want to become a designer
of museum exhibits like that, as well as themed entertainment vistas such as
casinos, restuarants, clubs and theme park attractions. Is museum exhibit
design the right track to study?
