When I was in Colorado, I researched the rules for a high-end raffle. It was
a big success and raised mega bucks in relation to the association's usual
fund-raisers.
You need to check on your state's rules for conducting raffles. Also you
need to state that raffles are gambling rather than contributions and that
gambling losses are only deductible to the extent that they offset gambling
winnings.
This was disappointing to people because the tickets were something like
$100 or $125 each. The tickets included an elegant dinner at the nicest
facility that could accommodate us and the raffle item was a bronze by a
very popular local sculptor. The proceeds were to a designated project,
too. The event was very successful although people would have loved to be
able to deduct the tickets. If I had it to do over again, I would have had
a donation form so that people could donate above the cost of the raffle or
just donate and not participate in the raffle. - Maybe.
