Hi Sophie,

Yes this does happen occasionally. Sometimes it is just the preference of
the organization to stick with their insurance. Other times it will be
because the lender's policy covers the object(s) specifically, or that
their policy is broader that the borrowing institution's. Not all of us
carry full wall-to-wall policies, and some of the exclusions vary from
provider to provider. It does often seem a little like picking nits.

 Hello Everyone,
  I know when someone is loaning something for an exhibit, they are given
the option to maintain their own insurance if they wish.  Does anyone
actually do this?  What would be the benefits of maintaining ones own
insurance as opposed to having the museum's insurance cover an object while
it is on loan?
