CURATOR OF EXHIBITIONS, UNIVERSITY MUSEUMS
University of Richmond

The University of Richmond is a dynamic, thriving private institution with
2,800 full-time undergraduates in the School of Arts and Sciences, E.
Claiborne Robins School of Business, and Jepson School of Leadership
Studies. Our School of Law and graduate programs enroll another 1,500
students. Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Nation's top
universities and recently named the most beautiful campus in the nation by
the Princeton Review, Richmond boasts a rich and innovative academic
tradition. Located in a park-like 350-acre campus in the suburbs of
Richmond, Virginia, the University is financially secure with a current
endowment of over one billion dollars. Richmond is the state capitol,
located 90 miles south of Washington, DC, and the metropolitan area has
over one million residents.

Seeking an experienced curator to be part of the University Museums,
including the Lora Robins Gallery of Design from Nature (an arts and
natural sciences museum), the Marsh Art Gallery (an art museum), and the
Harnett Print Study Center. The person must have curatorial experience in
the natural sciences or related objects along with an understanding of the
fine arts and cultural artifacts that comprise the collections and missions
of the museums. Qualifications include at least four years of relevant
museum experience and an advanced degree in museum studies, natural
sciences (preferably with an interest in minerology or related areas), fine
arts, or related field. Reports to the Executive Director and will be
involved in overall programming and development of the museums. As curator,
primary responsibilities will be organizing exhibitions and programs,
researching and developing installations of the permanent collection, and
cultivating collectors in the natural sciences and the arts.

The University Museums provide a rich cultural enhancement and important
academic resource for the university community and the general public of
the region. The Lora Robins Gallery is located in a separate wing of the
Boatwright Memorial Library, and the Marsh Art Gallery and Harnett Print
Study Center are located in the George M. Modlin Center for the Arts, a
$23-million building completed in 1996 that also includes two theatres, a
concert hall, and teaching studios and classrooms for the arts.

Submit cover letter including salary history and expectation, resume,
samples of published scholarship, and names of references. (Salary range is
not listed in accordance with University policy. Salaries are competitive,
and the University offers an excellent benefits package.) Review of
applications will continue until the position is filled. Apply Human
Resource Services, Attn: Janet Ragusa, University of Richmond, VA 23173.
