I confess, though our museum is transport and technology focused we do
have a small dental and medical collection so I was worried they could
be dental implements. Save me from anyone coming at my mouth with a gum
spear or a gum hook! Thank you everyone who replied both on and off the
list to me. I feel a bit embarrassed, New Zealand was a huge exporter of
kauri gum in the 19th and early 20th centuries for the varnish industry
amongst other things.
