I enjoyed the Cork Gaol museum, in Cork city, Co. Cork while visiting
Ireland a few years ago. I think the "Heritage" people of Viking Jorvik
fame were partly behind this, and not surprisingly involved a multimedia
presentation within the old (Victorian?) jail buildings. The visitor toured
the jail itself with a head-phone presenting, as one peaked into cell after
cell, case-stories of people who had been incarcerated; from common (read:
poor) people, including kids who'd been locked up for stealing bread, to the
more illustrious figures of the Uprising and Civil War. I felt they struck
a good balance in presenting the "rich and famous" and the "common"
criminals. It' s certainly one of the more memorable historic buildings I've
visited, and one in which "Head-phone Theater" worked very well.
