We usually have over 250 loaned items on display at any given time.  Keeping
the loan numbers with the object is sometimes problematic, especially when
it comes time to actually put the item on display.  Our procedure is to
place an acid free tag with the lender and loan number on it on the item
when it arrives, then either tuck the tag or place it under the item, or the
plinth it sits on, when it goes on display.  For archival materials we place
the piece on mat board and encapsulate it, then write the loan number on the
mat.

Hi,
We frequently borrow items for our changing exhibits and I have an
ongoing battle with trying to "attach" loan numbers to these items. Does
anyone have any suggestions about how to keep track of these items. It
is especially difficult because although I'm in charge of collection
management, I am by no means the only person in the museum who handles
these objects. Anyway, any ideas will be welcome.
