David:

We use PastPerfect collections software, and they too have added terminology
for natural history specimens. I'll check those out. But, I figured that a
cotton sample would be considered man-made, since it is something made from
a natural material that has been manipulated, such as yarn. Maybe I'm
stretching a little, but that was my reasoning. Thanks for the help,
though! I am a member of Musedocs, so I'll check out what you post there as
well.

Thanks!
Amanda

Subject: Re: Chenhall classification question

Dear Amanda,
Chenhall's was designed to classify only man-made objects. We have quite
a few natural history specimens so we added three additional categories to
accommodate these with appropriate classifications within these
categories. Since Museum-L does not allow attachments, I will post this
addition to nomenclature on Musedocs which is a Yahoo Groups site. If you
are not a member and don't wish to become one, let me know via e-mail and
I will send you the attachment. Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
David Ryan
