Employment Opportunity
ASSISTANT CURATOR
The successful applicant will undertake public
relations, educational, curatorial planning and
implementation, plus other general museum duties
as may occur in a medium-sized community museum.
DUTIES
Under the general direction of the Museum
Director/Curator, the successful applicant will:
- assist in the promotion and distribution of
museum information;
- research and develop exhibition narratives and
concepts;
- design and install exhibits;
- develop, direct and/or conduct educational
programmes;
- plan, teach and/or supervise school curricula
related programmes in the museum and in the
classroom;
- initiate and/or supervise the scheduling of
tours and school visits;
- develop, evaluate and report on creative
teaching strategies for all levels of education,
including adult education, using artifacts and
specimens from the collection and exhibits in
consultation with museum and education colleagues;
and
- train, supervise and evaluate the performance of
docents, guides and related temporary staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in a field related to museum
work and/or a diploma in museum studies;
- at least two years experience in a similar
position of activity and responsibility;
- must know how to use a computer;
- knowledge of the French language, St. Albert
history and working with volunteers are
desirable assets
The salary range for this position is $30,693 -
$37,309 Can. per annum depending on education and
experience
