Bill--

I was co-principal investigator of the Issues Laboratory Collaborative and
wrote much of the publication you mentioned. Minda Borun, the other P.I.,
was chief evaluator of the project and wrote the evaluation report that's
encorporated in Communicating Controversy, which is available from ASTC.

ILC was a complicated project, a collaborative of 5 museums. Each of the
partners explored aspects of global warming using a different format--
demo cart, lecture/demonstration, science theater, interactive videowall,
6-sided exhibit kiosk. All were evaluated, and several circulated among
the partners and were evaluated in different venues. ILC also organized
an invitational conference on issues programming. Minda's final study
on public attitudes towards issues programming was inspired by the
conference. Communicating Controversy includes discussion of issues
exhibits and programs, advocacy (should museums take stands or present
unbiased information?), community response to issues programming,
evaluation, and other related topics. We produced the publication
because the information was too extensive to present in another format.

Hope this information is useful. You're welcome to call me with specific
questions about the project or the publication.
