Elizabeth Bartman, an independent scholar, and Jane Fejfer of the University
of Copenhagen will be co-directing a 6-week summer seminar entitled
"Topographies of Collecting" at the American Academy in Rome in the summer of
2001. We hope to draw together participants from a variety of discipline to
study the collecting of classical antiquities in Italy and northern Europe
from the fifteenth through early twentieth centuries. The seminar will
investigate the various contexts or "landscapes"--social, political,
cultural--in which these collections have been situated. For more
information, application forms, and eligibility rules please visit the
Academy's website (www.aarome.org) and click on "Summer Programs."
