Looking for an edge for getting that museum job? Northwestern University
offers its Museum Studies Certificate Program at its Chicago campus. The
Museum Studies program provides aspiring museum professionals with an
understanding of the contemporary role of museums as reflected in all their
aspects, from collections, architecture, and exhibits to finances,
operations, and education programs.

Classes meet one night a week for ten weeks. Classes for the summer session
start this month.

The summer course is: Museums and the Public Dimension

This course focuses on the public dimension of museums, including audience
development and fundraising. The evaluation of visitors, programs, and
exhibits to help museums become more accountable is discussed. Ways for
museums to generate revenues plus methods of soliciting donations and grant
funding are included. Students participate in an instructor-led one-day
field trip to Chicago museums on a weekend. Students present a report
analyzing a related aspect of a Chicago museum.

The deadline for summer registration is Friday, June 20. For more
information, contact Jack Clegg at 312-503-3917 or [log in to unmask]
