Not "monastic" in the way you may mean (although _your definition_ would
help those of us who might reply) are the many, many ruins of mission
churches and housing for the friars and novices in the Southwest of the US.

There are also, of course, some "pseudo" ruins, in places such as the
Franciscan Monastery in the Washington, DC suburb of Brookland--a real
monastery, but with "catacombs" and other elements created
as a sort of museum exhibit--but again I doubt this is within the scope
you might define.

Another "created" setting (with real building parts) is that of The
Cloisters, the wonderful museum branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art
in New York City, where real cloisters (and other architectural
elelements) from Spanish and other monasteries are joined together to
create a superb, romantic museum for the Metropolitan's medieval materials.

Please say a word of definition of "monastic ruins"--and a word of
description of those you are working with.

John
