The Minnesota Historical Society (MHS) seeks applicants for a Manager of Programs to provide professional administration and management of the operations and programs of the Historic Sites & Museums division.  This position supervises the division’s site managers and directors; directs the division’s interpretive planning, research and development to create innovative new directions; assists and directs staff with management of human resources; and fosters communication between the sites and the institution.  The position also works with a variety of MHS personnel to develop divisional and institutional policies that will help the Society meet its long- and short-range goals; in particular, it is part of a historic sites central management team that coordinates the common activities of the division.  This is a full-time, regular position (2,088 annual hours) located at the History Center in St. Paul, MN.

Summary of Work:  Responsibilities include: 1) develops and promotes public education programs within and between each site in the division.  Ensures that each site offers high quality and financially sustainable programs within divisional/ institutional frameworks, and developed specifically for a wide variety of audiences and learning styles; 2) provides administrative leadership for staff to ensure the implementation of the goals and objectives of the Society, the division, and the individual sites; 3) supports historic site operations so that operations and program priorities are aligned, and so each site operates effectively within institutional and divisional guidelines; 4) manages and supports the development of human resources within the division; and 5) builds community support for historic sites and museums.  

Minimum Qualifications:
•	B.A. in history, museum studies, education, or a related field, plus 8 years program experience or equivalent OR an advanced degree plus 6 years program experience or equivalent.
•	5 years advanced, and progressively more complex, professional experience in museum or historic sites management and program development.
•	Experience integrating program development with human resource, financial, and building management.
•	2 years experience supervising professional staff.
•	Highly developed interpersonal skills, including ability to serve on teams and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
•	Experience creating networks and connections among a widely dispersed staff and within local communities.
•	Experience using information technology to improve communication and work processes.
•	Must be willing to travel to multiple locations.

Desirable Qualifications:
•	Highly developed project management skills.
•	M.A. in history, museum studies, education, or a related field.
•	Experience supervising staff in multiple locations.
•	Business/entrepreneurial experience, and/or knowledge of how to grow earned income.
•	Experience with development work and writing grants.

Salary:  $5,269 monthly minimum.
