MISSION

The Alliance for Lesbian and Gay
Concerns (ALGC) of the American
Association of Museums (AAM)
exists to mitigate the sense of
isolation that many lesbian and gay
museum staff feel within their
institutions and the profession. It
strives to create a sense of
community and support for both
men and women and to assist
institutions in creating an
atmosphere that supports lesbian
and gay employees.

The alliance also seeks to rectify
the traditional invisibility of lesbians
and gay men in the discussion of
culture. The ALGC works with the
AAM to foster programs that teach
people to value sexual diversity
within their institutions and the
museum profession.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to any
individual or institutional member of
the AAM who chooses to join the
ALGC. There are no annual dues to
join ALGC.

Vendors, exhibitors, trustees,
volunteers or other members of the
museum community who are not
AAM members are welcome to
participate in all ALGC activities,
but they may not vote.
