The Dubrovnik Inter-University Centre International Museology Course

Web site: http://www.uvcs.uvic.ca/crmp/dubrov98.htm

Join professors Ivo Maroevic, Dubrovnik Inter-University Centre, and Martin
Segger, University of Victoria, Canada, in Dubrovnik for the reconstitution
of the Dubrovnik museology course which has been interrupted by events in
Croatia/Bosnia and, more recently, Kosovo. This course will combine the
presentation techniques of symposium, seminar and fieldschool, combined with
study visits to local museums, historic sites and monuments, such as Split
and nearby coastal islands. Participants wishing to attend for credit can do
so through either the University of Victoria, the University of Zagreb, or
other accrediting institutions of higher learning.

Proposals for papers are now invited from museologists and scholars
interested in discussing the function and role of museums in promoting
global tolerance and world peace. Potential topics include: collecting,
preserving and interpreting museum collections with the aim of developing a
new consciousness for international peace and security; the use of cultural
heritage to reconcile communities in conflict.

Keynote papers will be given by Dr. Patrick Boylan, City University, London,
Chair of ICTOP and former Vice President of ICOM, and Dr. Peter Van Mensch,
Reinwardt Academy, Netherlands.
