Position Announcement: Education Assistant

The Morris Museum of Art, located in Augusta, Georgia, is a cultural
facility which collects, preserves, researches, exhibits and interprets
American works of art focusing upon, but not limited to, the American
South. An award-winning education department, consisting of three full-time
professional staff and an active cadre of forty-five docents, delivers
pre-service and in-service training, curriculum-based resources, and
targeted programs for students, youth, adults, and seniors that emphasize
research-based, interdisciplinary approaches to the study and
interpretation of Southern art.

The Morris Museum seeks candidates for the full-time position of Education
Assistant. Under the direction of the museum's Curator of Education, the
Education Assistant is responsible for the scheduling and implementation of
tour and public programs. Additionally, the Education Assistant develops
selected tours, programs, and outreach activities for youth (non-school),
special needs, family, adult, and senior audiences.

The successful candidate will be a self-starting and industrious individual
with a bachelor's degree in art history, museum education, or art
education. Preference will be given to individuals holding a graduate
degree in one of these disciplines. Previous museum employment and/or the
completion of a museum internship are strongly desired. Candidate must have
above average writing, speaking, organizational, and interpersonal skills
and be detail-oriented. Computer literacy, particularly in word processing,
spreadsheets, and desktop publishing, and familiarity and facility with
audio-visual equipment are required. Candidate must have a valid driver's
license and be willing to travel occasionally. Annual salary range is
$25,000 to $27,000.
