Hi Garet,

I think any unexpected skill requirements will depend on what specific job you take on after graduation. Basic accounting and clerical skills are musts in almost any museum incarnation.

However, the skills you really need to be successful in museums are ineffable patience, a heroic sense of self-sacrifice, and a complete lack of concern for what the rest of the world considers "normal." Unfortunately, they do not stress those qualities in many MA programs.

Good luck.

Subject: Random Job Skills Question

Good morning, everyone.

Since I am coming up on my final two semesters of coursework for my
MA, I thought I would ask a general question. When you entered the
work force, what skillsets did you find yourself needing most often
that were not part of your academic coursework? Did you find yourself
needing clerical skills? Accounting skills?

I just happened to think about that this morning, and it seemed like
an interesting question.

Have a great day,
Garet Bleddynn
