In Victoria (Australia), museums use a plethora of software for
cataloguing, although the package that has been recommended in past years
to small museums with heritage collections is a package called INmagic
which was originally developed for libraries and has been more recently
developed for small museums to align with a cataloguing manual and
worksheets used throughout the state of Victoria as a standard collections
management system.  In the state of Queensland, a new accessioning kit has
been developed by the Queensland museum, along the same lines as the model
used here, but with a numerical classification system built in, which we do
not use for INmagic.  Assessments of these two systems are to be made this
year and will appear in Museums National in the Winter (your Summer)
journal.
