The Adler Planetarium Education Department is seeking an Associate Director for Curriculum and Instruction to oversee Adler’s teacher and student programming.  He or she will take responsibility for
the development and oversight of programs for teachers and other programs serving schools.  He or she will serve as a liaison between the Adler and important stakeholders such as the Chicago Public
Schools, suburban school districts and the philanthropic community.  This position will report to the Director of Education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- manage, guide and oversee the Adler Classroom Connections in Earth and Space Science (ACCESS) teacher professional development project and supervise    
  ACCESS personnel

- work with external partners to design and deliver high quality professional development programs for teachers

-  provide intellectual leadership for curricular design and for program evaluation 

- pursue funding in support of teacher and school programs

- develop new initiatives and projects for teachers and school groups

- mentor staff about project management, best practices and quality assurance

Education and Experience: 

-a Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, school administration or a related field is required

- a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction, teaching and learning, instructional design and urban school administration or a related field is preferred

- classroom experience and curricular design and assessment are required

- administrative or professional development experience is required

- must have a strong ability to network

- must have project management and staff supervision experience

- must have the ability to design and evaluate curricula and educational programs

- understanding state and local school systems, requirements of schools and local curricula are preferred.

- grant writing and report writing skills are preferred

- bilingual or multicultural outreach skills are preferred
