I normally use simple Excel sheets. On the vertical axis I put the
department and category, such as: Education, School Program. On the
horizontal axis I have quarters and months. This sheet is used to establish
due dates for grant applications. Another sheet, with the same set-up, is
used to track reporting requirements. Nice thing about the Excel sheets is
that you can "hide" the information not needed an have a much smaller
document.

If you are involved in a much more complex operation then you might want to
use some of the project management software available. Microsoft Project is
excellent but expensive and takes time to learn. Good thing about this
software is, that if you require support from another department, e.g.
Graphics, then you can easily establish possible resource conflicts, i.e.
the week you need the Graphics department for your report, they have the
annual dinner program due. Turbo Project is a good program I have used that
is both cheaper and simpler than MS Project.

Subject: Question for Grants Managers--How do you track your grants?

Hello,

I'm curious if someone could share with me a template that you use to track
your grants (potential grants, pending grants, and current grants, etc.),
report due dates, other pertinent information about the grants. I'm trying
to create something that I can use with our various departments so they have
an easy at-a glance system created just for their grants to help me help
them keep track of important details, due dates, etc.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or templates you are willing to share.
