Between April and June 1999 a research about museums and the web in Italy
has been carried out; in particular, it was a study about the
characteristics of the present museum information offering on the Internet
and it has included a census (both quantitative and qualitative) of the
Italian museum web sites.
Moreover, the survey has gathered many information through a questionnaire
sent to a panel of museums who have been interviewed about topics such as
the objectives of the web site, the partnerships in the creation and
management of the site, the content suppliers, the target audience of the
site, the surveys conducted by museums about the virtual visitors, the
generation of revenue from the site, etc. At last, a short section of the
questionnaire has enquired about the technological equipment of the museums.

The survey has had the supervision of Prof. Ludovico Solima from the Seconda
Università degli Studi di Napoli and the support of the Ufficio Studi of the
Italian Ministero per i beni e le attività culturali.

At the moment the report about this survey is available only in Italian.
Anyway, we're planning to make an English version. If anyone is interested
