MUSEUM ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

JOB SUMMARY
 The Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, a division of the Arizona Secretary of State, provides public access to public information, fosters historical/cultural collaborative projects, and ensures Arizona’s history is documented and preserved. The mission of the Arizona Capitol Museum (AZCM) is to connect people with Arizona Government - Past and Present.
 
Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for planning, implementation, and oversight of museum operations in support of the Museum Director; coordinating museum special events; managing the museum’s marketing efforts; assisting with exhibits planning; oversight of museum education programs.

This is a full time position requiring occasional evening and weekend hours with the possibility of some travel.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee daily museum operations
Manage AZCM marketing program
Coordinate museum special events
Lead AZCM education program, with On-Site Experience Manager
Serve as co-lead of AZCM exhibits team, with Museum Director
Supervision of assigned staff
Compile attendance reports
Establish and maintain customer service standards and customer satisfaction measurement tools
Serve as Manager on Duty on rotating Saturday
Serve as acting Director in absence of Museum Director
Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Preferred Qualifications:
BA or 5+ years of related experience in education, customer service, or related field
Background in higher education or educational institutions such as: schools, museums, and/or libraries
Previous supervisory and/or management experience
Proven track record within a profit and/or non-profit organization
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Previous marketing experience
Knowledge of Arizona history and government
Team oriented
Excellent organizational skills including multi-tasking and time management
Ability to meet sensitive deadlines
Proficient in various computer software including office products, publishing software and web design software
