I just want to add my two cents about the "Motel of the Mysteries" and the
"Nacirema" discussion. A few years ago, I did my masters exhibit along those
lines and both served as great inspirations. My exhibit was an anthropology
"lesson" from the viewpoint of an alien studying earth. I displayed random
objects (toliet paper and remote control) next to "anthropological
collections" from around the world. I had people write down what they
thought each object was and would be used for. I received some pretty
creative responses.

Anyway, the exhibit was fun to develop, different and well received. I hope
many people get to do something like that or experience something like it.
(I made my intro to anthropology students come for extra credit!)
