Let me invite M. Gagnon and other museum professionals to respond to this
query on academic background prior to a Museum Studies degree. I am
currently in a combined Master's program in History and Archival, Museum
and Editing Studies. I am somewhat older than the average newcomer to
the museum field, and instead of an undergraduate History degree I have
instead a BA in English from NYU and an MA also in English from Michigan.
In what stead will these degrees, and my current dual Master's, stand me
in a rapidly professionalized field such as ours (yours?). I am
interested in a position at a historic home, or at a county-level
historical society, in curating or collections, but will not reject out of
hand other opportunities. Please advise.
