As a younger member of a museum staff (27) and a younger museum goer, I
would just like to suggest an approach that is always best when
targeting a new audience. Go talk to them and find out what they want.
I can almost certainly promise you that most younger audiences want to
have a stake in what your museum is already doing. It's just about
making it seem like they have some ownership over it too (along with
the parents and kids). I doubt very much that the majority response
you would get would be, " Oh! Dude, I really wanna party at the
museum!" Which seems to be the first step people think of when they
want to attract younger audiences. We're not all singles out for a
date and we don't all have to have alcohol to enjoy a stimulating
museum.
