CURATOR.  New York Transit Museum seeks an experienced, highly
motivated, creative, and team-oriented Curator to oversee the
documentation, care, exhibition, and interpretive presentation of its
expanding collection.  The Museum, which documents the history of public
transportation in NYC, is in a major growth period with new exhibits and
facilities planned.  This key professional management position is part
of a professional team, reporting to the Senior Curator.
Responsibilities include: building and documenting the artifact
collection; developing and implementing conservation, preservation, and
storage plans; planning, implementing, and maintaining temporary and
long-term exhibits; working closely with other staff to develop and
present public programs and events related to collections and exhibits,
and assisting in preparation of interpretive training materials;
assessing the historic significance of transit facilities; assisting in
preparation of grant proposals and reports for curatorial projects;
supervising staff, contractors, interns and volunteers.  Bachelors'
degree required (Master's degree preferred) in history, American
studies, history of technology, historic preservation, museum studies or
related field; four years' curatorial experience.  Experience with
historic public transportation vehicles, New York or urban history,
exhibition development, and successful grant writing and management are
