The Museums Council of New York will meet on March 26 at Fraunces Tavern
Museum, 54 Pearl Street, NYC from 5:45-8:00 PM.

Lauren Kaminsky, Museum Director, will welcome us at a wine reception.
Claire Bertrand, curator of the museum and of a new exhibit *When New York
Was British,* will lead a tour. The exhibit focuses on the period between
the English takeover of New York from the Dutch in 1664 and the British
expulsion from the City at the end of the Revolution in 1783. It
concentrates on the period of British occupation during the Revolutionary
War and the conflict between the Loyalists and Revolutionaries.

In addition to period maps, artifacts, and images, there are interactive
components including a recreation of one of the infamous Sugar-house
prisons. The museum's period rooms, including the Long Room where George
Washington bid farewell to his officers before resigning his military
commission, will be open. Dinner and the MCNYC meeting will follow in the
Fraunces Tavern Restaurant.

The Museums Council of New York City is a 40-year-old informal membership
association representing virtually all of the City's not-for-profit
museums. Staff members of all of these institutions are welcome to the
meetings. Recently, we have been inviting museum professionals and people
from associated professions to the meetings as well. Other benefits of
membership (institutions, rather than individuals, are members), include
the Museums Council Directory -- a listing of all of the member museums
with staff contact numbers, exhibition schedules, and other relevant
information. Copies are available for $5.00/ea + $1.00/order postage and
handling. Member institutions also receive a limited number of Museums
Council passes, which admit their staff to other member institutions at no
charge.

If you wish to attend this meeting, please send a check along with your
name, institution, department, and phone contact, for $25/person to Amy
Fischetti, Queens County Farm Museum, 73-50 Little Neck Parkway, Floral
Park, NY 11004. You can call her at (718) 347-3276 if you require further
information. Please make your reservation early, as recent meetings have
been sold out.

Hope you will join us.
