Dear Marie,

It seems to me you are talking about a great many different things here.

All history museums I have worked for have used Chenhall's revised
Nomenclature.  Though it is certainly not the be all and end all (terms for
many objects in specialized collections are not included, for example)  it
has worked well for the collections I've managed.  Nomenclature is a lexicon
of terms for manmade objects, in case you're not familiar.   EAD, however,
is encrypted archival description, and probably out of the scope of most
museum catalogers (at least it is for me).

Do any art museum folks have comments on their lexicons?
