How eerie. I rejoined this list yesterday because I wanted to pose this
very question. Please post your responses to the entire list.

I ran a Teacher’s Advisory Panel at another museum and my general response
would be that the advisors needed specific projects to feel valued and to
insure their commitment. So we created subcommittees, which worked fairly
well.

My overall experience with overworked teachers in Washington state is that
they want to be compensated for their time. I have paid them $30/hour to
come to planning meetings. For my committee, I was considering giving each
participant a Family Membership ($65 value) and then paying them only if
they do some extra work within their subcommittee, such as piloting a
lesson plan or reviewing a curriculum.

I would be interested, as Maija is, in what structures work for committees,
how formal to get, and their overall effectiveness.

Thanks,

Kathleen
