Smithsonian Institute selected for August 2002
Profiles in Excellence

Last year 29 million tourists visited the Smithsonian
Institute's fourteen museums and the National Zoo.
Visitors with disabilities are accommodated and able
to enjoy exhibits and fully participate due to the
efforts of the Smithsonian's Office of Institution
Accessibility Office (SIAP). The Institution has been
selected for the Solutions Marketing Group's (SMG)
August 2002 Profile in Excellence, because of its work
to provide visitor accessibility, community outreach
and leadership to other museums.

Carmen Jones, SMG President says, "The Smithsonian
Institute's accessibility program reaches deep into
the institution to ensure that persons with
disabilities enjoy their experience when they go to
our nation's greatest museums. SIAP gathers
information, performs research and partners with other
groups in the community, allowing them to focus on
visitor needs. We applaud their work and contribution
that impacts the lives of millions of visitors with
disabilities each year."

Disability-marketing.com is the online home of the
Solutions Marketing Group (SMG), a marketing
consulting firm that designs strategies for businesses
to target people with disabilities as a viable
consumer niche. The site also includes SMG's broad
range of services and links to valuable resources.
Profiles in Excellence is a monthly online article
that features companies and organizations that
demonstrate leadership in accessibility, employment,
customer service and marketing to the nation's 54
million Americans with Disabilities.
