I had an exhibit experience a few years ago that was stunning.
Stunningly BAD. It was at an airshow in Ohio, with many children in
attendance, and featured great mountains of misinformation,
near-deception, and lots of other things museums are supposed to avoid.
But are airshows museums? Should (can) they be examined as conventional
museum exhibits are? I say they function as museums, despite the usual
goal of celebrating progress and patriotism sans critical thought, and
that interesting ideas pop up when when these demonstrations of living
technological history are looked at through museum eyes. By the way, one
highlight (?) of this show was a stout fellow riding up and down the
flightline, portraying George Patton -- pearl-handled pistol and all --
accompanied by the theme from the movie "Patton."

Regards,
Doug L.
