At my former place of employment we used to display a hanukkiah during
the holiday and place candles in them to indicate which day we were on.
(we didn't actually light them) Once we borrowed about 15 different
styles of hanukkiyot from a local collector who owned dozens, and
displayed them as an art exhibition, and put candles in different
combinations every day.

One year we decided to do a more comprehensive exhibition about
midwinter celebrations and their various artistic/material culture
traditions, and highlighted a number of different celebrations around
the world. This was great because it put Hanukkah in context with other
Near Eastern celebrations (specifically Zoroastrian traditions), and
worldwide Christmas traditions in context with the very ancient and
widespread (primarily pagan) idea of celebrating the idea of light at
the time of the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year. It
really made sense to indicate how all the various faith traditions
traced back to a central practice that seemed inherent in human nature.
