POSITION VACANCY:  ASSISTANT COORDINATOR

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science is hiring an assistant
coordinator  to provide on-site expertise to teachers and students in the
Water Ecology Project.  The WEP is a program designed to teach middle
school students in New Mexico about water quality and biodiversity on the
Rio Grande.  There are currently ten programs operating throughout the
state.  Students participate for 4 hours per day for three weeks and then
report their findings to other program participants at the end of the
summer.  The assistant coordinator will travel throughout the state
(sometimes overnight) to visit the various sites and provide assistance to
the teachers and aides during data collection trips.  The assistant
coordinator will be hired through the Museum Foundation.  Deadline for
application is February 7, 1996.  Duties for this position include but are
not limited to:

        *  assisting Ecology Education Coordinator in training summer staff.
        *  ordering equipment and arrange vehicles for summer programs.
        *  assisting in pre- and post- evaluation of the program.
        *  making two (2) visits per week per program.
        *  assisting in curriculum development.
        *  providing program support to the teachers
        *  other tasks as assigned by the Ecology Education Coordinator.

TIME FRAME
        * 20 hours per week from March 18, 1996 to May 26,1996
        * 40 hours per week from May 28, 1996 to August 18,1996

COMPENSATION
        *  Salary rate is dependent upon and commensurate with experience.
        *  Travel around state and lodging during overnight site visits is
provided.

QUALIFICATIONS
        *  Junior, Senior, or graduate in field of study directly related
to environment ( Biology,
            Chemistry, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Studies, Geology,
Secondary Science, etc.)
        *  At least one field biology or geology course.
        *  Availability for part-time work March through May, going to
full-time June to August.
        *  Willingness to travel extensively throughout the state.
        *  Experience working with middle school students desirable.
        *  Experience working with Native American populations.
