Lakeview Museum of Arts and Sciences in Peoria, IL announces immediate
opening for Collections Manager/Folk Art Assistant.

This is a full-time position, scheduled at 40 hours per week, Monday through
Friday. The position is responsible for maintaining all collection records
and care and for coordinating folk art exhibitions and outreach. Reports to
VP of Collections and Exhibitions; supervises volunteers and interns as
assigned. Knowledge of standard museum collection management practices,
including record-keeping and handling techniques, is required; familiarity
with a collections management software program is required; close attention
to detail and the ability to work with others, including the public, or
alone are essential. An advanced degree in collections management or a
related field or comparable experience preferred.

Lakeview Museum is accredited by the AAM and is a Smithsonian Affiliate
institution, celebrating its 40th year in 2005. Permanent collections
include fine, decorative and ethnographic arts and natural sciences; major
strengths of the collections include Midwest landscape paintings, Illinois
Jacquard coverlets and Illinois River decoys, African artifacts and mineral
specimens. Plans are underway to merge with other major local cultural
institutions and move into a new downtown facility in 2008. For more

Peoria is located in central Illinois on the Illinois River, 1 1/2 hours
from Springfield and 3 hours from Chicago and St. Louis. It is the 3rd
largest city in the state, with a metropolitan population of 340,000.
Bradley University and the world headquarters of Caterpillar International
are located here. Cultural offerings include symphony, ballet and opera plus
a full schedule of music tours and athletic events. Peoria is the oldest
non-native settlement in the state.
