Circling the Wagons: Small Museums Coming Together to Solve Problems

Small Museum Association Annual Conference

February 24-26, 2008

Ocean City, Maryland

Keep your eyes open for the SMA Conference Program & Registration Mailing in
your mailbox!

At the upcoming conference in February, we're excited to offer different
tracks for our concurrent sessions. At any given moment, there will be five
different sessions taking place simultaneously. Each time slot will provide
a session which will be of interest to museum educators, curators, volunteer
coordinators, board members, or directors. These topics include: Volunteer
Incentives Successful Field Trips, Curatorial Housecleaning, Writing Exhibit
Labels, Employee Management, and Museum Ethics. President and CEO of the
American Association of Museums, Ford Bell, will be delivering the keynote
address at its Annual Conference on Monday February 25, 2008.

Pre-conference workshops will also be available and will be held on Living
History Education, Disaster Response, Technology 202 (intermediate
technology background necessary), Grant Writing and Fundraising.

An Idea Lounge is being offered this year as a place to sit with colleagues
to discuss a potential collaboration, check email or simply relax for
moment.

Take time to think about what you would like to donate for the silent
auction - all proceeds benefit the SMA Annual Conference Scholarship Fund -
or who you would like to nominate for one of our awards! Our awards
recognize the achievements of those who bettered individual museums and the
small museum world as a whole. It's a great way to say thanks to those who
continue to give so much effort to making our profession a vibrant and
fulfilling one.

Please let any new employees and volunteers to your organization know that
scholarships are available to first-time SMA conference attendees.

Have a Happy Holiday Season and if you have any questions about the Small
Museum Association, or our Annual Conference, feel free to check out our
website, www.smallmuseum.org, or to contact me. I look forward to hearing
from you.

Mike DiPaolo

Chair, 2008 SMA Annual Conference
