Dear museum-L,

This is not an answer to this thread but it seems to me that we should not
be looking into what is good or better but how can one help or maybe
compliment the other.

This thread started by someone who got head wind from an Academic person to
go into museum studies. It shows how short-sighted some people can be. We
life in an age where boundaries and borders are disappearing and where
working together is the cornerstone of success.

I don’t think that anyone can tell someone not to go into a certain field.
They can tell a person why they think s/he would be better in what field
(and very important here is “WHY”).

Getting back to Academia vs. Museums, we all have our own reasons for
choosing our paths. We might not be so happy with the money involved or with
the exposure we get etc, etc… in the end we all have to work together to
preserve, research and document what our common history has left and taught
us. Let us not look at the boundaries of our job let us look at the
possiblities we have to work and grow together (all over the world).

Sincerely yours,
Roeland Stulemeijer

(Sorry, my England not very powderfull
(Singlish for: my English is not very good))
