In psychoanalysis, the "analysist" mainly listens, but at the appropriate
moment, he or she will speak in order to lead the patient toward an
understanding of something that might otherwise remain unconscious. In the
trade, this is often called "making an intervention."

These artists try to do something similar in the museum world... they
recognize that a museum is an expression of a community's desires - and often
these desires reflect or accomadate the interests of one particular social
group over another: maybe a wealthy family's interests, the interests of a
commercial coalition, a certain class, etc. As a part of their work, these
artists often develop strategies to make such deeper social structures
visible....
