Picture Collection Specialist II
Library Specialist II 
Position #147
Minimum Salary: $31,687

The Special Collections Branch of the Library of Virginia is seeking an 
enthusiastic team-oriented individual for assisting patrons in locating 
visual images for publication, film, exhibition and personal use.  
Researches and utilizes files and indexes of images in response to 
requests made via email, phone, correspondence and in person.  Processes 
requests for permission to reproduce LVA pictorial material.  Serves 
patron requests for photograph, print, rare book, and ephemera 
collections, following security procedures.  Responsible for 
administrative tasks, including accurate records, creating invoices, 
maintaining databases, managing statistical records, organizing paperwork, 
and ordering supplies.

Qualifications 
• Knowledge of Virginia’s pictorial history.  
• Knowledge of Virginia state and local history.  
• Knowledge of research methodologies and techniques relating to 
pictorial materials.  Working  knowledge of photographic processes, 
standards, and technology.  
• Working knowledge of archival and library standards and 
procedures.  
• Working knowledge of computer technologies relating to pictorial 
materials.   
• Basic knowledge of conservation-preservation procedures and issues 
relating to pictorial materials.   
• Demonstrated ability to complete detailed projects effectively and 
efficiently and within multiple deadlines.  
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in 
writing.  
• High degree of customer serve skills is required.  
• Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods, to lift and move 
volumes, boxes and containers weighing up to 20 pounds each and to bend, 
stoop, push pull and complete tasks requiring manual dexterity. 
• Bachelor's degree in American Studies, history, government, or a 
related field; or a combination of college courses and equivalent work 
experience in archival, historical, library, or museum work required.  
• Master's Degree preferred.
• Must pass a security background check.
