PUBLICATION OF MANUAL ON EDUCATIONAL POTENTIAL OF MUSEUM
EXHIBITIONS
LONDON--The Stationery Office for the Museums and Galleries
Commission of the UK is publishing a manual on how to maximize
the learning potential of museum exhibitions for all visitors.
The goal of the book is to encourage students of museology and
people responsible for setting up displays to think more
carefully about the educational objectives and potential. The
book is unique in combining learning theory with consideration
of the needs of different museum audiences and more practical
information about setting up displays. Eight sections deal with
educational objectives; learning theories; visitors' needs and
characteristics; disabled visitors' requirements; exhibition
planning; data from relevant and innovative case studies; the
theoretical and practical aspects of text and labeling; and
evaluation of impact and effectiveness. The book has been
edited by Gail Durbin, Head of Gallery Education at the Victoria
and Albert Museum in London. The publication is available in
paperback, 260 pages for 22.50 pounds. ISBN 0 11 290552 8.
Books may be ordered by telephone +44 171/ 873 9090; fax +44 171
/ 873 8200.
