Hello:

I currently coordinate the distance learning program here at the Albany
Institute of History & Art in Albany, NY, and I would certainly be willing
to discuss the practical issues of distance learning with you. My contact
information is below.

Also, check out the Pac Bell website, which lists many content providers
around the country. The link is
http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/vidconf/adventures.html.

Like most content providers, we do not see videoconferencing as a substitute
for a visit to a museum. Rather, distance learning allows us to connect
with students all over the country -- students we would not be able to reach
otherwise.

Good luck!
Suzi

Contact Conner Prairie at 317-776-6000. We have dl almost everyday during
the school year. Our primary participants are elementary and secondary
schools, most in Indiana (where CP is), but we do get a number of out of
state schools as well. We have also relayed to other facilities/
institutions (such as nursing homes) in the past. It is done live w/
audience participation highly encourage.

Conner Prairie's dl is not intended to replace teachers in the classroom or
as a correspondence education, but to supplement classroom instruction.

Subject: Distance Learning

  Greetings:

Can anyone advise me about distance learning: the pitfalls, the
challenges, the benefits? I am looking for organizations that provide
distance education and for grant agencies that want to fund such programs.
