The NATIONAL MUSEUM OF HEALTH AND MEDICINE of the Armed Forces Institute of
Pathology presents classic public health films from the 1940s: "Know For Sure"
and "Fight Syphilis" Friday December 2, 1994 7:00 p.m.  Admission and parking
are free.
 
  The films will be introduced by Dr. Cynthia Fuchs, Assistant Professor,
English Department, Film and Media Studies at George Mason University and film
critic for Philadelphia's City Paper.  Dr. Fuchs will examine the film
techniques and presentation of culture, ethnicity and gender as presented in
these 1940s public health films.   She will relate this historical public health
effort to the education efforts about HIV and AIDS. The film will be presented
in the original 16 mm format.  The films include scenes which are mature in
nature.  Space is limited, please call (202) 782-2202 for a reservation.
 
The National Museum of Health and Medicine, a Department of the Armed Forces
Institute of Pathology, is located on the campus of the Walter Reed Army Medical
Center in Northwest Washington, D.C.  Visitors should enter the complex through
the Elder Street Gate of Georgia Avenue.  Because public parking is limited
during the week, visitors are encouraged to use public transportation.  From
Takoma Park stop on Metro's Red line, the museum is a twenty minute walk.
Metorbuses #52, #54 and #53 (rush hour only) run between the Takoma Park stop
and the entrance of Walter Reed.  The museum's main entrance is located in  the
south end of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Building ( Building #54).
The National Museum of Health and Medicine is open from 10:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M.
seven days a week, and is closed on December 25th.
