In view of the recent thread on MUSEUM-L here is a notice of a timely
discussion on censorship and art to be held at the Laguna Art Museum
(LAM) on Thursday August 30th.

John Bing

"SIDEWAYS at LAM" is a gathering of people interested in intimate and
untraditional conversations about the arts and community. Its
premiere event was held in July to a sellout crowd. The public is now
invited to the next of this very special series of free events:

                BANNED and BARRED: the conversation

A distinguished group, led by Clayton Spada, will examine the
uneven, sometimes contradictory, application of censorial actions and
the not-so-well defined gray zone from which censorship often arises.
Participants are: Tyler Stallings, LAM Curator of Contemporary Art;
Mark Johnstone, LA Cultural Affairs Department; Jill Conner, director
of Brand Art Galleries at the Brand Library in Glendale, Professor
Daniel J. Martinez, Art Department, UC Irvine, and Director of Deep
River Gallery, Los Angeles, and photographer Mel Rogers.

Thursday, August 30:
   Wine and Cheese at 7
     Discussion at 8
       Cookies at 9:30
