The Detroit Institute of Arts, the sixth largest fine arts museum in the
nation, announces its search for a Vice President of Development, and
solicits nominations and expressions of interest.

The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is home to one of the nation’s foremost
collections of art and boasts holdings that include over 65,000 paintings,
sculptures, graphic and visual arts, housed in more than 100 galleries.
DIA is located in the heart of Detroit’s cultural center adjacent to Wayne
State University. It has just begun construction of the first phase of an
ambitious $91 million renovation plan that will create additional
exhibition space, update the mechanical workings and improve the overall
visitor experience. To support the above renovation and build its
endowment, DIA launched a $330 million capital and endowment campaign in
April of 1999. To date, $117 million has been raised from nearly 200
donors. More information about DIA can be obtained on their web site at
www.dia.org.

The Vice President of Development will oversee all fundraising activity;
lead and complete the capital campaign; assess, unify, and build the
development program; and further the overall mission of DIA by serving as a
key member of the management team. The VP will report to the Director/
President/CEO and work closely with the board.

For consideration, candidates must have senior level management experience
in institutional advancement, particularly in the areas of staff
development, major gifts, deferred giving and capital and endowment
campaign development and execution. S/he will demonstrate the ability to
think creatively and strategically. Very strong written and verbal
communication skills are essential to convey enthusiastically the work of
the Institute to the public and to potential donors. A passion for the
visual arts and the urban environment is important to success in this role.

The services of EMN/Witt/Kieffer have been retained to assist in this
important search. Nominations and expressions of interest in the position
should be directed to:

Emanuel D. Berger and Elizabeth K. Bohan
Educational Management Network/Witt/Kieffer
25 Burlington Mall Road
