Curator, American Art

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the premier visual art museum in the
West, seeks a highly qualified professional with museum experience to serve
as Curator of American Art. Responsible for the development and care of an
important collection of more than 450 paintings, sculptures, and
watercolors; and for interpretation of American Art through exhibitions,
publications, and participation in the museum's educational programs.
Responsible for development and oversight of original and loan exhibitions.
Department currently has a staff of two, volunteers, and interns.

Ph.D. in Art History or equivalent, with seven or more years of curatorial
and/or related experience; record of scholarly publications and exhibitions
required. In addition, necessary skills include connoisseurship, familiarity
with conservation and collection care; excellent research, writing and
speaking ability. Must enjoy collaborative, teamwork approach and have
strong interpersonal and organizational ability. Must also be adept at
interacting with donors, collectors, and potential donors. Department has a
support group, the American Art Council.
